Job Summary
Melt Operators will be responsible for the running metals melting equipment used in making nickel and cobalt-based alloy powders. This will include loading the furnace with raw materials, purging down with inert gas, power-up, and pouring the molten metal from a hydraulically positioned furnace. You will be responsible for the precise fixturing of atomization nozzle and gas delivery system. At least 1 year forklift experience required.
Key Responsibilities of Melt Operators
- Drain, transfer, or remove molten metal from furnaces and transport it into other furnaces.
- Draw smelted metal samples from furnaces or kettles for analysis and calculate types and amounts of materials needed to ensure that materials meet specifications.
- Remove impurities from the surface of molten metal, using strainers and other tools
- Add chemicals to molten metal to bring impurities to the surface.
- Direct work crews in the cleaning and repair of furnace walls and flooring.
- Scrape accumulations of metal oxides from floors, molds, and crucibles, and sift and store them for reclamation.
- Prepare material to load into furnaces, including castings and ingots
- Observe the operations of the furnaces to ensure that problems do not occur.
- Add chemicals to molten metal to bring impurities to the surface.
- Direct work crews in the cleaning and repair of furnace walls and flooring.
- Scrape accumulations of metal oxides from floors, molds, and crucibles, and sift and store them for reclamation.
- Prepare material to load into furnaces, including castings and ingots
