Job Summary
Tool and Die Technicians troubleshoot fixtures, performing preventative and predictive maintenance on all installed equipment to minimize downtime and keep safety as a priority. set up, troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial press production equipment. Tool and Die Technicians must be strong multi-taskers who can work through a list of assigned priorities, while also responding to emergency calls to resolve issues. Employees must be able to work overtime and weekends, as needed.
Key Responsibilities of Tool and Die Technicians
- Maintain lines and other tooling to improve processes resulting in increased productivity and quality parts.
- Tig and Mig welding and hand working parts of assembly line (heat treat of materials).
- Ensure spare parts requirements and maintain correct inventory levels.
- Maintain accurate documentation.
- Recommend modifications to existing equipment.
- Monitor spare parts requirements to continuously improve process.
- Maintain accurate documentation resulting in shared knowledge of issues and lessons learned.
- Train and support assembly team members and lesser advanced Tool & Die team members.
- Ensure equipment meets NEC, OSHA, and Magna regulations.
- Perform PM inspections as required, complete with all repairs.
- Minimize downtime by effective use of resources including response time, technical expertise, tools, spare parts and external contacts.
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Cognex camera and Perceptron.
- Establish and maintain communication with team members and other departments.
- Monitor and maintain good housekeeping.
Education and Experience:
- Completed apprenticeship program in tool and die preferred
- High School diploma or GED required
- Post-secondary education or related experience preferred
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Tool and Die experience with metal stamping preferred
- Experience with extremely large, heavy presses
Required Skills / Knowledge:
- Ability to use all tool room equipment and measuring tools
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to weld and restore tooling to original condition
- Must have basic knowledge of drafting (blueprint reading, dimension drawings, etc.)
- Must be adaptable to change
- Must be able to provide own tools
- Must be willing to work extended or flexible hours as needed
- Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
